The 28th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) will occur June 12-16 in Miami Beach, Florida. An online segment will follow on ABFF PLAY streaming from June 17-24.
“The American Black Film Festival is an annual event dedicated to empowering Black talent and showcasing film and television content by and about people of African descent. Dedicated to the belief that diverse artists deserve the same opportunities as their mainstream counterparts, ABFF Founder Jeff Friday conceived the festival in 1997 as a vehicle to strengthen the Black entertainment community by fostering resource sharing, education, and artistic collaboration,” as stated by the event’s webpage.
ABFF will contain masterclasses, seminars, parties, networking events, entertainment, spotlight screenings, and many more.
Some popular projects and names in the industry will be present for screenings, such as Christine Swanson’s Albany Road starring Renée Elise Goldsberry, Lynn Whitfield, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Lisa Arrindell, Gary Dourdan, Joe Holt, and Rachel Nicks. As well as the world premieres of Jussie Smollett’s The Lost Holliday starring Vivica A. Fox, Jussie Smollett, Jabari Redd, Marquise Vilsón, and Brittany S. Hall, Coke Daniels’ The Waterboyz starring Akil McDowell, Alani “La La” Anthony, Quavo, Omar Dorsey, Rockmond Dunbar, and Wes Miller’s Black Heat starring Jason Mitchell, Tabatha “DreamDoll” Robinson, and NLE Choppa, according to Variety.
