Ben Affleck’s The Accountant 2 has officially its rating. It will rated R, the same rating as the original film back in 2016. Film Ratings stated that the film was rated R for strong violence and language.
The film will be a direct follow-up to the original, with much of the original cast returning. Ben Affleck is of course back as Christian Wolff, the titular accountant, as he gets wrapped up in another deadly game. Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver, The Punisher) returns as Brax, and J.K. Simmons likewise returns as Ray King. Similarly, Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Spartacus, Arrow) will be back as Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina.
It has now been nearly a decade since the release of The Accountant, and it does make one wonder what took so long. In an interview with Collider, J.K. Simmons expressed his affection for the film and his excitement for the sequel. “Thanks to Gavin O’Connor and Ben Affleck for really being determined to make it happen, because, as I’m sure you know, that movie did well in theaters, but then it’s had a really, really popular resurgence in the last few years in streaming.”
It seems that while it was received well on release, it did not become extremely popular until it hit streaming. He also said, “It’s just such great characters and such a great story that I’m glad they worked their butts off, and now are with a different studio finally making it work. A lot of us are going to be back, and I’m really, really looking forward to my contribution to that, and to the movie itself.”
The Accountant 2 is currently set to release in theaters on April 25, 2025.
