The 98th Oscar Nominated Short Films Get Theater Distribution from Roadside Attractions

Every year during awards season people find that one category is always hard to follow up on due to lack of availability to watch them. That category would be the short film category. They get so little distribution after festival runs, which was always a negative for those wanting to catch up on every Oscar nomination. Well now, Roadside Attractions has you covered. They plan to, with help of acclaimed filmmaker Taika Waititi, distribute every nominated short film to select theaters.

Taika Waititi, known for his own Oscar nominated short film ‘Two Cars, One Night’, has stated his love for short films and how deeply he respects the art form

Short films occupy a singular space in the global filmmaking community, inviting artists to experiment, challenge conventions, and tell stories with unparalleled creative freedom.

There was also an additional statement by Roadside Attractions Co-Presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff that shows their shared enthusiasm for the project

This is an extraordinary crop of films, and seeing them in the theater will be a treat for film lovers as awards season approaches.

The program will feature three theatrical presentations, each representing all three of the Academy Award Short Film categories: Animated, Documentary, and Live Action. Each presentation will showcase some of the most acclaimed short films from around the world, offering audiences a chance to experience this year’s Oscar contenders on the big screen before the awards ceremony. With this release, Roadside Attractions aims to support short film story telling as an artform, and to keep it a must see theatrical event.

And for those wondering, this major event will begin on February 20th in only the U.S. and Canada. The list of films can be found here.
