The Beijing International Film Festival is approaching its 15th ceremony. But that is not the only anniversary, the festival also marks the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 120th for Chinese cinema. The festival explores talented filmmakers and the importance of global distribution.

Many talented creatives are joining the festivities. Variety gave the details about the different aspects of the festival. Teaching a workshop and masterclass is the talented French actress Isabelle Huppert. The class will delve into her “distinctive artistic approach” and how she interacts with directors on projects. Another masterclass and workshop headliner is Chinese auteur Jia Zhangke, who has received high praise from Cannes and Venice. Zhangke, along with other collaborators including Yu Lik-Wai, Matthieu Laclau, Shozo Ichiyama and Zhang Yang, will present Mountains May Depart, Memories Never Fade. On April 25, the “multi-hyphenate talent” Jiang Wen, who served on Cannes and Venice juries, will also head the Tiantan Awards.

This year at the BIFF, the focus is on expanding Chinese content and creatives to wider audiences. Some awards will be given to young, new artists as well. Awards include “Young Stone Project” and “Most Anticipated Young Directors’ Works Recommendation Gala,” which will both go to talented directors.

The Beijing International Film Festival celebrates creatives in the film industry. It is also a place to learn from experienced talents and see new films.
