Teyana Taylor makes it clear that she fights her own battles, sticking up for herself during a heated confrontation with an alleged security guard at Sunday’s 98th Academy Award ceremony.
In the now-viral video, the One Battle After Another star is shown at the Dolby Theatre, making her way through a tight crowd. She calls out to a yet-to-be-identified man, calling him “very rude,” adding, “you’re a man putting your hands on a female.” The Best Supporting Actress nominee proceeded to tell others around her, “he literally shoved me,” and “he damn near shoved her,” referring to another woman near Taylor.
After the ceremony, Taylor spoke with TMZ, where she gave her account of the interaction, explaining,
Everybody was having a good time, security was just doing a lot. There’s always that one, but I’m perfectly fine. I’m happy. I mean, there’s nothing to wonder. The first thing people do is definitely make assumptions. But at the end of the day I just don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unwarranted and unprovoked.
During the actual ceremony, Taylor went viral for two more joyful clips. The first one was when the actress gave an excited standing ovation for Amy Madigan, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as the villainous Aunt Gladys in Weapons. The second one was when Taylor put One Battle After Another director Paul Thomas Anderson in a joyful headlock after learning they had won the award for Best Picture. An Oscar viewer had a confused but funny response to the interaction, writing on X,
I was so confused watching this. I thought Teyana Taylor was a producer on One Battle After Another & therefore, she won the Oscar. That’s why she was dragging Paul Thomas Anderson in a headlock. I’m happy for her happiness.
One Battle After Another swept the Oscars ceremony, which included six Academy Award wins from thirteen nominations. This included Paul Thomas Anderson for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Casting, which is the first ever winner in the new category, Best Film Editing, and Sean Penn for Best Supporting Actor.
