A teaser trailer for the John Madden biopic starring Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale has arrived online, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Written and directed by David O. Russell, with an earlier draft of the script being penned by Cambron Clark, Madden follows Cage as the pro-football Hall of Fame legend, who coached the Oakland Raiders, owned by Al Davis, played by Bale, to a Super Bowl win in 1977, before developing a system that would eventually lead to the creation of the popular EA Sports Madden Football video game franchise, and later becoming an NFL broadcast commentator.
The teaser trailer was released during the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs game on Christmas Day and shows a heavily made-up Cage as Madden and Bale as Lewis, with the latter speaking about the former, saying:
“There is only one John Madden. They didn’t make another one. Football wouldn’t be football without him.”
Along with Cage and Bale, the film stars John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as John’s wife, Virginia Madden, Sienna Miller as Al’s wife Carol Davis, and comedian Shane Gillis in an as-yet unrevealed role. The film is being produced by Russell, Matthew Budman, and Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Jonathan Shukat through Escape Artists, with David Bloomfield, also from Escape Artists, serving as executive producer.
Madden is set for release on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2026, on Amazon Prime.
