Taylor Sheridan has signed on to pen and produce a Call of Duty movie adaptation, reuniting with collaborator Peter Berg, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Call of Duty series, created by Activision, debuted in 2003 and has since become one of the most popular video game franchises in the world, having sold over 500 million copies. The first-person shooter places the player in various battle scenarios across 30 games spanning eras from World War II, Vietnam, to even the far future.
Sheridan joins the project soon after signing a five-year film and television deal with NBCUniversal, which is set to begin in 2029, following the expiration of his current deal with Paramount. The adaptation also reunites the Yellowstone creator with lifelong friend Peter Berg, who will co-write, produce, and direct. The duo previously collaborated on the Western thrillers Hell or High Water and Wind River.
The film was first announced on September 2, 2025, with Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison saying,
“..Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don’t take lightly. We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve…”.
