Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is currently in negotiations for the female lead in Stronger, the Boston Marathon Bombing film with Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw) set to star and David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) to direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This film – being developed by Lionsgate – is one of several Boston Bombing-set movies currently in the pipeline, however, it is the only one focusing on Jeff Bauman (Gyllenhaal), a survivor who lost both of his legs during the attack. The story has been adapted by John Pollono from the memoir written by Bauman and Bret Witter. The drama will unfold the events surrounding Bauman’s race toward the finish line where two pressure cooker bombs were waiting to explode, resulting in 3 deaths and over 260 injuries.
Maslany is in talks to play Bauman’s girlfriend, who was there waiting at the finish line and is the film’s female lead. This would be her first major studio film. Maslany first came onto the scene in a big way quite recently from her role on the television series Orphan Black. Since then she has been in several chemistry tests and auditions for a role in one of the upcoming Star Wars spinoffs, or possibly Episode VIII. She appeared in Woman in Gold this year and will soon star alongside Dane DeHaan (Time) in Two Lovers and a Bear as well as with her real-life boyfriend Tom Cullen (TV’s Downton Abbey) in The Other Half.
