Comic-Con at Home will run through the weekend, but tonight we were able to sit down with filmmaker and Silent Bob himself, Kevin Smith, to talk about a wide array of topics from Son-In-Lockdown, his Masters of the Universe show, and a new look at his upcoming film Killroy Was Here.
For those unfamiliar, Son-In-Lockdown, is Kevin Smith’s brilliant sitcom that he made during quarantine, detailing him living with his daughter’s boyfriend and unable to leave. Kevin Smith spoke about how he decided to do the show to pass the time during lockdown, but found it to be refreshing, calling it a film school refresher and “the most fun I’ve had since Clerks.” Kevin Smith is no stranger to low budget filmmaking and if the reviews and popularity of the sitcom have anything to say about it, he is in his element there.
Next, Kevin Smith updated us on his Masters of the Universe show that he is developing for Netflix, teasing amazing performances from his cast and “the powerhouse animation” on display. Smith additionally teased that the show will be different from the original, having actual stakes for it’s characters. He confirmed that the show will be a continuation of the original 80’s series and that it is a can’t miss for fans of the original and newcomers alike.
Kevin Smith also revealed for his feverish fans that he has launched a new podcast with his daughter Harley Quinn Smith, taking the time to emphasize that it is free. Harley Quinn Smith’s podcast will be about veganism, something that Kevin Smith is very passionate about after his heart attack a number of years ago that lead to a change in his eating and life habits. The podcast is called Vegan Abbittoir and can be found wherever you listen to your podcasts respectively.
By far the biggest take away from Kevin Smith’s Comic Con at Home appearance is the first look at his upcoming film Killroy Was Here, which he co-wrote and directed. Interestingly enough, Smith helped make the movie with students at Ringling College of Art and Design after guest speaking for the film students there. Originally written as a Krampus movie before Michael Dougherty burst into the mainstream with his own version of the Christmas Devil, Killroy Was Here will be an anthology monster movie. For those who would like to see the first look at the film, it can be found in the full video (link provided below) at the 48 minute mark.
There are numerous other take aways from Kevin Smith’s Comic Con at Home appearance, but these are the most notable For those looking for a joyful conversation and a funny jolt in the arm, you can check out the full video for An Evening with Kevin Smith here.
