Take Flight With the Teaser Trailer for Disney’s ‘Artemis Fowl’

This morning saw the release of the first teaser trailer for Disney’s upcoming film Artemis Fowl. The film is an adaption of the science fiction fantasy novel of the same name by Irish author Eoin Colfer. The series has seen eight novels following title character Artemis Fowl ll. Disney’s adaptation has been in development since 2016 and originally encapsulated events from the first two books, but it was recently confirmed that it would only portray the events of the first book.

The novel Artemis Fowl follows 12-year-old prodigy Artemis Fowl ll who runs the Fowl criminal empire established by previous generations of his family. Fowl believes he has discovered the existence of fairies, and upon investigation finds an entire underground world of them. Fowl is accompanied by his bodyguard Domovoi Butler as they enter the underground world and capture a fairy to hold her at ransom in order to restore their family fortune.

Many fans of the book series have been anticipating a film adaption for quite some time, though many have been leery of Disney adapting it given their recent slew of disappointments in live-action fantasy films, such as Alice and Wonderland, Tomorrowland, and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. However, the trailer features visually stunning effects and no lack of the heart-stopping action present in the novel.

Artemis Fowl is directed by British director and screenwriter Kenneth Branagh and stars Ferdia Shaw as the titular character. Alongside Shaw are Lara McDonnell, Hong Chau, Nonso Anozie, Josh Gad, and Judi Dench. The film releases in the U.S. on August 9, 2018 and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios. Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
