On the rise filmmaker Jim Mickle has become attached to direct a currently untitled thriller set to star Sylvester Stallone. At one point dubbed Godforsaken, this project was first announced – albeit with little to go – during STX Entertainment’s presentation at CinemaCon earlier this spring. Mickle previously directed the well-received indie thrillers We Are What We Are and Cold in July.
The upcoming film follows Stallone’s major comeback last fall with Creed, the critical and commercial success where the venerable screen presence returned as Rocky Balboa (and earned an Oscar nomination in the process). There’s more information now about the film as Stallone is set to portray an ex-con who is anguished over the death of his son and takes matter unto his own hands. There doesn’t appear to be a start date or a release plan as of yet for this title. No further casting announcements have been made.
Stallone is next set to appear on screen in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 (in what will likely be cameo) and has a voice part in the upcoming animated feature Animal Crackers. We will stay tuned to latest developments of this one.
