Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are preparing to team up for The Housemaid, a psychological thriller adapted by director Paul Feig.
Lionsgate, the studio behind the film has already closed the deal with Sweeney and is in final negotiations with Seyfried. Feig will be led by Rebecca Sonnenshine’s script, based on author Frieda McFadden’s best-selling novel first published in 2022. The Housemaid revolves around Millie (Sweeney), who becomes a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, a wealthy couple that Millie learns are hiding dark and dangerous secrets.
Some of the producers include Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, as well as Feig and Laura Fischer for Feigco. Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden, and Alex Young will serve as executive producers.
Carly Kleinbart Elter will oversee The Housemaid for Hidden Pictures, while Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley will oversee the film for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the deals on behalf of the studios.
Sydney Sweeney is best known for her roles in Euphoria and Anyone But You, with her forthcoming project including Echo Valley, Apple’s thriller film starring alongside Julianne Moore. Sweeney is represented by Paradigm, imPRint and Stewart Brookman, and Hansen Jacobson.
Sweeney took to Instagram to announce her casting in the film with the caption “tell me about yourself, Millie #TheHousemaidMovie – coming soon!!”
Seyfried is best known for her role in Mamma Mia! but has recently starred in The Dropout. She is represented by Innovative and Frankfurt Kurnit.
Feig’s most recent directing project is Amazon’s action-comedy Jackpot!, while his sequel feature A Simple Favor 2, starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, is set for release next spring from Amazon and Lionsgate. Feig is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer.
“I’m thrilled to have The Housemaid join our upcoming slate,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement.
