Surprise Irish Horror Film Excites With Both Fright And Delight

Director Damian McCarthy’s newest horror film, Oddity, has become a great hit after releasing on streaming services, Shudder and AMC +, the week of October 3. The movie first premiered at SXSW this past spring where it received approval from those who watched. It focuses on a psychic medium who goes to lengths to find out the truth about her sister’s murder. The film stars Carolyn Bracken, Gwilym Lee, Johnny French, Steve Wall, and Caroline Menton.

Oddity ranked in the top 10 most popular movies on streaming in the U.S. to watch on Shudder and AMC+ standing at number 10.

The movie debuted with a high 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 77% score with audiences proving it to be a success with those who give it a try. Critics claim that Oddity does not shy away from being truly horrific and comes up with new ways to scare the audience. Critics point out that the ending does not disappoint. The ending will leave audiences with a lingering feeling that will make them remember the movie long after it is over.

It leaves viewers asking if there is a possibility for a sequel. The film is more of an independent movie with a smaller budget, so a sequel was nowhere near possible at first. But then, it won the Audience Award at the Midnighter part of SXSW, and its success with streaming led to talks for a sequel. However the ending was not very open to a this idea, but there is still a possibility of similar movies from the director or more of the director’s projects and ideas to be made thanks to Oddity‘s exposure.

With Oddity achieving these numbers and winning these awards, it encourages filmmakers to continue their projects no matter the scale because they do not know what will and will not gain attraction.

Oddity is now streaming on AMC + and Shudder.
