James Gunn’s Superman has gotten some mixed reviews in internal test screenings. The general consensus has been positive, pointing to a good start for Gunn’s DC debut.
In the test screening report, the audience believed David Corenswet delivered as the titular character and believed Gunn balances the heart and humor well. The film is also belived to be about 140 minutes. “Some people don’t love it, some people think it’s too jokey or the tone’s off or they saw the comedy out of context,” Jeff Sneider of Comic Book Movie continued. “Some people really like it. There’s a range of opinions.”
DC Japan also shared a post on X announcing something would arrive “tomorrow” (March 21st). They announced an updated release date, and the film’s Japan release is now July 11 instead of July 18. The announcement was released with another teaser trailer with the film. However, there was no new footage in the teaser. It’s possible that next month’s CinemaCon will be where a new trailer will be unveiled.
Gunn’s reimaging of Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult alongside Corenswet as Lois Land and Lex Luthor. The supporting cast also includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell and Milly Alcock.
Superman flies into theaters on July 11.
