‘Superman’ is still under a review embargo until July 7, but some reactions have already spilled out following press screenings last week. Full reviews are still to be released, but some allowed reactions give more away than they should. In broad strokes, early reactions have been positive, calling the film vibrant, full of heart, and “180 degrees away from [Zach Snyder]’s vision.” Some of the other reactions read “It’s very Silver-Age. It’s got a lot of those sci-fi tropes. It’s big in spectacle, drama, and laughs. Big in its heart. A very earnest film” and “Needless to say it was DAMN BEAUTIFUL. Time absolutely flew by…”
‘Superman’ is not only the grand return to films from DC Comics (with Joker: Folie à Deux being the only DC film released last year) but also the jumping off point for a brand new DC film universe, the DCU. Many other films and TV shows are planned to tie into the universe, including Supergirl in 2026 and The Brave and the Bold later on. Superman will introduce us to David Corenswet as Superman, but will also feature many other DC characters. Among them is Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Superman releases in a busy month of July, being sandwiched between blockbuster giants Jurassic World: Rebirth and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The film is expected to be a massive hit, with predictions ranging from $ 95M to $135M for its opening weekend. The film flies into theaters on July 11.
