Chicka chicka yeah! The cast of the 2007 hit comedy Superbad is reuniting for fundraiser for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. The event, entitled, “Superbad: Cast Reunion & Watch Party,” will take place on October 27 at 8 p.m, local time, via the Hollywood Reporter.
Director Greg Mottola will be present along with producer Judd Apatow, and co-writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Also returning are the latter duo’s on-screen counterparts in Jonah Hill and Michael Cera. In addition, Bill Hader, Martha Maclssac, and McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse will all be part of the virtual reunion. No word on if Oscar award winner Emma Stone will participate, though Superbad was a breakout role for the now A-list Hollywood star.
This announcement follows many Zoom reunions, including a Lord of the Rings reunion in early summer, Legally Blonde 19th anniversary reunion the other day, and a recently announced Hocus Pocus reunion right before Halloween.
In addition, the democratic fundraiser is not dissimilar to the recent news of some Avengers cast members endorsing and fundraising for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris earlier this week. Wisconsin is a key swing state. In an announcement Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler said, “We are thrilled to have the cast of Superbad join us in the fight to defeat our super awful president… Laugh with us as we raise the funds and mobilize the volunteers we need to finish this race strong.”
There is a clear focus on this state and the reunion can bring laughs as well as funds for the democratic party. Recent virtual reunions for the Wisconsin Democratic Party have included the Princess Bride, the West Wing, and Veep.
Everything else aside, Superbad is a genuinely fantastic, funny, and feel-good film that balances high school joy and angst incredibly well and it will be great to see most of the cast reunite.
