Sundance Selects Acquires ‘From the Land of the Moon’ Starring Marion Cotillard

Sundance Selects has picked up U.S. distribution rights to the French romantic drama From the Land of the Moon. The film stars Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (Midnight in Paris). The acquisition took place, reportedly, following promotional footage that was unveiled during the recent Berlin Film Festival; the movie is currently in post-production. Variety broke the story.

Based on the novel by Milena Agus and set some time shortly after World War II, From the Land of the Moon tells the story of Gabrielle (Cotillard), a woman who is put to the difficult task of choosing whether to commit to the man she is expected to marry (Àlex Brendemühl, The German Doctor) and a charming war veteran (Louis Garrel, Saint Laurent). Nicole Garcia (Place Vendome) directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay alongside side Jacques Fieschi (Yves Saint Laurent).

This marks the second collaboration between Sundance Selects (a sibling label to IFC Films) and Cotillard. Sundance Selects previously distributed Two Days, One Night, the drama directed by the Dardenne brothers that earned the La Vie en Rose star an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

A question remains if From the Land of the Moon may emerge at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. Cotillard is certainly a favorite of the distinguished film festival and may be there any way if her next project – It’s Only the End of the World directed by Xavier Dolan (Mommy) – is added to the official line-up. Cotillard will also soon appear in the recently titled Five Seconds of Silence alongside Brad Pitt for director Robert Zemeckis as well as Assassin’s Creed, film that will reunite the actress with her Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and actor Michael Fassbender.

No release date for From the Land of the Moon has been set yet.
