Four award-winning stars are set to star in a new comedy from Neon, directed by Emmy-winner Wendey Stanzler. Per Deadline, the film, titled Old Pals, will star Golden Globe and Emmy winners Henry Winkler, best known for his role as Gene Cousineau in Barry, and Brian Cox, best known for his role as Logan Roy in Succession. American Horror Story alum Emma Roberts and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Evan Rachel Wood, best known for her role as Dolores Abernathy in Westworld, will also lead the project.
Stanzler is known for her work in multiple TV comedy and drama series, including Sex and the City, Parks and Recreation, Party Down, You’re the Worst, and For All Mankind. Old Pals is based on a screenplay by Rick Cisario and follows polar opposites and recent widowers, Ira, played by Winkler, and Jimmy, played by Cox. They are forced to build a friendship due to their conspiring daughters, played by Roberts and Wood. The two are stubborn at first, but ultimately, they form an unexpected friendship, proving that even the most unlikely people can be brought together by family.
Neon International will introduce the comedy film next week at the European Film Market in Berlin, handling the foreign sales rights, while CAA Media Finance and Verve Ventures will represent the North American rights. Debbie Liebling will produce for Inner Child Productions alongside Kim Bailey and Isabel Marden for Corporate Witchcraft.
A theatrical release date for Old Pals has not yet been announced.
