Dave Franco takes a new avenue in his film career, as the actor will soon make his directorial debut for STXinternational with The Rental, starring Dan Stevens and his wife Allison Brie according to Deadline. The film will be written by Franco and Joe Swanberg, which follows a pair of couples embarking on a weekend vacation to a vividly perfect abode they booked online, only to discover something wicked is brewing. What was supposed to be an exciting weekend involving four friends transforms into a revelation of personal secrets and the realization that they may not be alone in the rental home.
The film also stars Shelia Vand, who previously appeared in A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night and Jeremy Allen White of Shameless fame. The film recently entered production as of this week. STX is currently looking for a buyer who might manage the film’s international rights while Endeavor Content will be managing domestic rights.
Ramona Films’ Elizabeth Haggard, alongside Dave Franco, Black Bear’s Ben Stillman, and Teddy Schwarzmann, will be producing The Rental. Michael Heimler will serve as the film’s executive producer alongside Sean Durkin. STX recently acquired Prisoner 760 this week, which will star Jodie Foster, Shailene Woodley, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tahar Rahim.
