Iconic director of classics like Jaws and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Steven Spielberg has decided to dabble in a new medium: music videos. Spielberg has been credited with directing Marcus Mumford’s debut single Cannibal. If Mumford’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he is the lead singer of the British band Mumford & Sons. The music video was shot in a single take on an iPhone. Actress and Spielberg’s wife Kate Capshaw was along for the ride; serving as dolly grip, art director, and producer. Capshaw’s contribution was caught on an Instagram post on Mumford’s account, where the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom actress can be spotted steering Spielberg in an office chair as he films on the smart phone.
It’s unsurprising that Spielberg, who has been known through out his career to make difficult things work just to get the shot, would attempt something as difficult as filming by hand on an iPhone, let a lone a video that’s one cohesive shot. Mumford’s wife, BAFTA and Critics’ Choice-winning actress Carey Mulligan, is credited with being the costume and sound departments.
