Stephen Spielberg, director of many acclaimed blockbuster films such as Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park, and West Side Story, has just received a pushed-back release date on his forthcoming film. The untitled project will be distributed through Universal and Amblin Entertainment and has adjusted its release date to June 12, 2026, just a month behind its original planned release of May 15.
Hollywood Reporter detailed that the change in dates has happened to avoid conflict with May 2026 Disney releases, such as Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu, both of which are projected to have large box office turnouts. Spielberg’s film will take the place of the also-delayed film by the Daniels, the creative team behind the Best Picture-winning Everything Everywhere All At Once. The Daniels film is still proceeding as planned and will receive a new release date shortly.
Spielberg’s film is untitled as of now but is being described as an “original event film”. Major plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film’s cast will include Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson. The script is written by Spielberg’s frequent collaborator David Koepp, whose shared filmography includes Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
