An exclusive from the Latino Review has details on Sir Ben Kingsley’s top secret Marvel project. The fate of Kingsley’s character will be revealed in a one shot short film. Once again, SPOILERS FOR IRON MAN 3 AHEAD
The short will reveal that there is in fact a terrorist named the Mandarin running around the Marvel Movie-verse. The real Mandarin knows about the farce put on by Iron Man 3‘s villain mastermind Aldrich Killian and actor Trevor Slattery (Kingsley), and he is not happy. According to the Latino Review, the short film will follow the Mandarin as he endeavors to “set the record straight” about his operation and plans. It is still unknown what those plans are or if they involve a confrontation with the Avengers.
Also unknown is the nature or appearance of the real Mandarin aside from the fact that he is a villain. Much of the disappointment from some fans about the Mandarin/Slattery reveal in Iron Man 3 resulted from the attention to detail in the accuracy of Kingsley’s outfit compared to the source material (note the shot of the ten rings in the trailer below). So, if Marvel decides to adhere to the comics for the real Mandarin’s appearance as well, does that mean Killian knew about the Mandarin and his operation? Did they work together at some point?
Even if this short is all movie audiences see of the Mandarin, comic fans can rest easy knowing that the character will be used for more than just a fake out.
