Last month’s Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens trailer showcased some of the new characters in the upcoming film. Now their identities have been revealed exclusively to Entertainment Weekly. The characters, as well as a brief description, have been released in the form of trading cards in the style of those released to coincide with the the original film.
The cards all feature stills from the previously released trailer and only include the characters in said trailer. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are nowhere to be found. What’s more, none of the character names include Skywalker, Solo or Organa – the last name of Leia’s adopted parents – on the cards. In fact, the only surnames on the cards is of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and the Sith Kylo Ren (unconfirmed but suspected to be Adam Driver). This leaves Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) connection to our original heroes a mystery. Finn (John Boyega) is also featured without a last name. We also get the name of the droid BB-8. The remainder of the cards are stills of action shots from the trailer. Along with the original three, we still haven’t seen any pictures of franchise newcomers Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Domhall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lipita Nyong’o, or Andy Serkis who is the voice in the trailer.
The original cards were released in five sets, each with a different color. Director J.J. Abrams also told Entertainment Weekly that the numbers on each card have a greater meaning than simply calling back to the style of the original cards, but wouldn’t go any further into their purpose.
Rumors have been flying faster than light speed since the trailer was released last month. This new information will surely add to the speculation until the film releases December 2015. You can check out the cards below:
