Thandie Newton, fresh from freaking us all out on the first season of HBO mystery Westworld, may be traveling to a galaxy far, far away. Variety broke the story that the actress is currently in talks to join the forthcoming – and still untitled – Han Solo prequel film, another notch in Disney’s ambitious expansion of the Star Wars universe.
The role Newton is potentially up for is not known at this time yet if negotiations come to fruition, she would join an ensemble being led by Hail, Caesar! breakout Alden Ehrenreich, who is stepping into Harrison Ford’s iconic shoes as the young Han Solo. Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke are also confirmed for the film while Fleabag star Pheobe Waller-Bridge is another proposed casting prospect – reportedly, the actress is vying for a key, but unknown, role in the film. The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller direct.
Newton, known in the past for roles in the Oscar winning Crash as well as Beloved, Mission: Impossible II and The Pursuit of Happyness, is currently filming Xavier Dolan’s all-star English-language debut The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. She will also continue with Season 2 of Westworld, continuing her role of Maeve Millay, a role that recently earned her Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations.
The Han Solo prequel hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
