John Boyega will be the executive producer for the film and the driving force behind the soundtrack for God is Good. The film is also director Willem Grobler’s debut feature.
Incorporating the crime aspect of City of God and the thriller feel of Prisoners, this film takes place in the Cape Flats, north of Cape Town. It involves a detective and a reformed pastor who meet after a violent act forces them to collide with a gang lieutenant.
The soundtrack is set to spotlight African artists and their talents through this project. In an interview with Deadline, Boyega states that he shares “a passion for music and this film enables us to work with local talent in South Africa to find those voices and help put them on the international stage by also bringing on internationally renowned Afro beats artists.” The film is already set to feature YoungstaCPT, who is from Cape Flats, according to Variety. Boyega’s record label, UpperRoom Records, will manage the film’s soundtrack.
Shooting for the film is planned for spring of this year.
