Since J.J. Abrams has been rumored to be considering many actors for possible roles in Star Wars: Episode VII, it was only a matter of time before Gary Oldman surfaced as a possibility. No newcomer to franchise films, Oldman has played Lieutenant/Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy, Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series, and Dreyfus in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. There have, of course, been plenty of Star Wars casting rumors about who’s being considered, but this particular possibility comes from none other than Oldman himself, who confirmed he’s been contacted about Episode VII, but doing his best Harrison Ford impression, declined to say any more.
Although Oldman suggests coming aboard the next Star Wars film is still far from a sure thing, he admits to have been called to discuss a role. In an interview with Sky Movies, Oldman stated, “I’m more cynical about it now, I believe it [that there’s a done deal] when I’m on the plane home. You know, the deal isn’t done. Major plot details of the newest (and recently overhauled) episode of Star Wars have not yet been released, so it’s unclear even what kind of role Oldman would be considered for. Although much of the casting is still, at least publicly, up in the air, all signs still point to production beginning sometime this spring. According to TV Guide interview with Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the first Star Wars trilogy and along with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) is expected to reprise her role in some capacity, cameras are to start rolling sometime in either March or April.
