At the beginning of this year, the epic continuation of the Star Wars saga began filming with director Rian Johnson (Looper) at the helm. Johnson was pleased to announce via Twitter that he has wrapped filming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The official Star Wars twitter account posted a .gif announcing the end of production. As seen above, Johnson “cannot wait to share with us.”
After wrapping, Johnson headed to the Star Wars celebration in Europe, where Entertainment Weekly was able to learn exactly where Episode VIII will pick up. According to Johnson, Episode VIII will begin where Episode VII left off. Rey (Daisy Ridley), after assisting the resistance was last seen face to face with the legendary Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), eager and prepared to start her Jedi training. We also cannot forget about the crippled First Order which most likely is lurking around every corner of the galaxy seeking revenge.
Franchise newcomers such as Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tranwill will share the screen with Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Dohmnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, and Carrie Fisher who are all set to return.
“You come into it with nostalgic feelings, but your job is to get beyond that very quickly,” Johnson said at the celebration.
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released December 15th, 2017. Luckily for us, we have Star Wars: Rogue One to look forward to while we wait.
