‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ Restores Director’s Cut Trailer Release

Remember Star Trek: The Motion Picture was the first movie to hit theaters on December 7, 1979; well, it’s been 43 years, and Paramount released a trailer for the long-anticipated wait for Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director’s Editions. Paramount gave Robert Wise an upgrade Star Trek fans will enjoy. Robert Wise enhanced the visual effects sometime in 2001 for its new DVD release in standard definition. Rise passed away in 2005, leaving producer David C. Fein and preservationist Mike Matessino to finish Rise edited high def effects with David Docterman overseeing the effects team.

David C. Fein discussed his experience as the producer at the time. Fein expressed in an interview with The Hollywood Reported. “I couldn’t be prouder and more thrilled to have completed the film in 4K,” he said. “Paramount offered unprecedented access to the original elements and exceptional support, and the results are stunning. Utilizing the latest discoveries and innovations of modern film production, the Director’s Edition delivers so much more today than was previously possible. It’s an adventure you’ll never forget.”

William Shatner starred as Captain Jame T. Kirk alongside Leonard Nimoy as the great Spock, the half Vulcan half-human science officer. The critics did not think the film knocked them off their feet for its slow pace focusing on the Enterprise crew in their investigation of mysterious spacecraft heading towards earth. However, the film still went on to inspire the Star Trek franchise, which continues today.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture The Director’s Edition will debut on Paramount Plus on April 5 and will com 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in September.
