One of the more anticipated movies of 2015 just got an exact release date. Distributor Open Road Films announced today that it will release director John Hillcoat’s (Lawless) thriller Triple Nine next September 11th, a date which the movie has all to itself for now. For those who have never worn a badge or aren’t intimately familiar with police procedure, the movie’s title refers to the police code – 999 – meaning an officer is down. The movie’s plot concerns a group of dirty cops who have to pull off an impossible heist for the Russian mob, and the only way they can do it is to manufacture a 999 by killing an inexperienced cop. However their plan falls apart when the cop foils the attack. As we’ve covered here before, the film is notable for the embarrassing riches of its cast, which reads like a who’s who of quality actors. The list includes . . . (deep breath): Kate Winslet (Labor Day), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Casey Affleck (Out of the Furnace), Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay), Gal Gadot (the new Wonder Woman), Aaron Paul (Need for Speed), Norman Reedus (AMC’s Walking Dead), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker). (. . . exhale!).
