The sports-action comedy Intramural is about to burst onto the field with its world premiere in the Midnight section at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. In a section full of horror films, Intramural may just be the breath of fresh air (or rather gut-wrenching sensation of laughter that leaves you breathless) needed to lighten up the darkness. Though as the new trailer (above) reveals, the film is likely not without its own reserve of adrenaline-rushed action and violence.
As the official synopsis states:
There comes a time in every fifth-year senior’s life where they must either accept the impending ‘real world’ of jobs, marriage, and payment plans or shirk that responsibility in favor of playing the most glorious intramural football game your school probably doesn’t really care to see. This full throttle and hilarious send-up of inspirational sports movies harnesses every cliché and overused trope to tell the greatest (and only) intramural sports story of all time.
Seemingly abounding in absurd hilarity, Intramural has a lot going for it. Although this is only Andrew Disney’s second time directing a feature length narrative (his first was Searching for Sonny ), it has quite a large cast of renowned comedic actors: Kate McKinnon, Jay Pharaoh, and Beck Bennett are some of Saturday Night Live’s most renowned current performers, and Jake Lacy (The Office, Obvious Child ) and D.C. Pierson (Mystery Team ) also have significant comedic profiles. Other notable cast members include Nikki Reed (Twilight franchise), Brian McElhaney (Searching for Sonny), Nick Kocher (Searching for Sonny) and Gabriel Luna (Bernie ).
