Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have released the first trailer for their latest animated film, The SpongeBob Movie: Search For Squarepants. This will be the fourth theatrically released SpongeBob Squarepants film, with the most recent being Sponge on the Run in 2021. Additionally, two Netflix spinoff films were released since then with Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie and Plankton: The Movie.

In the trailer, we see SpongeBob and Patrick travel to the “deepest, most dangerous part of the sea”: The Underworld. The two don pirate outfits are taken by The Flying Dutchman, a ghost pirate to a place where “no Sponge has gone before. It is up to Mr. Krabs, Gary and Squidward to rescue the pair before it is too late. The film will hit theaters this Christmas on December 19.
