Although eyes have been on the previews for Avengers: Doomsday, fans have been waiting for word of certain crime fighting wall-crawler. Now they have to wait no longer, as a trailer has just been released for the next MCU film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker has committed to his full time role as Spider-Man. Still hanging onto the old threads of his life, Peter has to juggle his work as Spider-Man with attempting to rekindle the bonds with his friends, all the while undergoing some staggering changes to his powers.
Tom Holland returns as the spectacular Spider-Man, alongside his now-wife Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. The trailer promises other MCU characters returning, such as Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner, Michael Mando as the Scorpion, in his full getup, and even Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, shown to have a share of witty banter with Spidey.
On top of seeing other MCU mainstays in the trailer, it also helped fuel a major fan theory that’s been circulating since a trailer first leaked. Speculation was rampant that Brand New Day will be adapting a comic arc called The Other, which spanned multiple ongoing comics from 2005 to 2006, with writers Peter David, Reginald Hudlin, and J. Michael Straczynski. The comic story sees Peter go through troubling changes as a sickness overcomes him that even the brightest minds have no answers for. Just as the trailer shows, the ailment gives Peter some unusual physical side effects, strongly affecting his own powers and abilities as he races against time to figure out a solution.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters July 31st. Check out the trailer below.
