A new trailer for the upcoming MCU film Spider-Man: Far From Home suggests that Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) will potentially become part of Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) New Avengers lineup. Thanks to the radical shake-up by Avengers: Endgame‘s conclusion, Spider-Man: Far From Home will be observing the fallout of everything that transpired post-Thanos. Some of that sees Fury going back to his old ways with trying to create the New Avengers in secret.
While Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is Fury’s first recruit, he dismisses the idea of getting bigger names like Thor, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel involved. He instead plans to use Mysterio’s skills and knowledge about the multiverse to fight a trio of villains known as The Elementals. Unlike the more traditional portrayal of Mysterio as a villain, Far From Home seems to be developing his relationship with Spider-Man as one for good, having the two fight together against The Elementals.
For now Mysterio and The Elementals are the only ones from the multiverse but, given Mysterio’s status as a routine liar, there will always be questions about his motives. Spider-Man: Far From Home will be out July 2nd so it won’t be long before we learn how much of Mysterio’s story is truthful.
