Spider-Man: Brand New Day has added two more Marvel Vets to the Tom Holland-led cast.
Mark Ruffalo is confirmed to be returning to the role of Bruce Banner, better known as the Hulk, in the Sony/Marvel sequel, fourteen years after his debut in the franchise. Ruffalo’s joining of the cast was only rumored up until now, as production begins in England this month and the script is finalized.
Meanwhile, Michael Mando is also set to reprise his role of the Scorpion, the criminal-turned-villain character he first portrayed back in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first installment in the “Holland-centric” Spider-Man film series.
Ruffalo is a well-seasoned actor, having received a Golden Globe and two Emmys while being nominated for four Academy Awards, best known for not only his role in the MCU but also for films like David Fincher’s Zodiac, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things. Mando also has an extensive acting career, working on television series like Orphan Black and Better Call Saul.
Additional cast members are set to reprise their roles in this feature including Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, marking the vigilante character’s first movie appearance since the 2008’s Punisher: War Zone, where the late Ray Stevenson took on the role. Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas have also been announced to join the cast in still unknown roles, marking the first MCU role for both actresses.
While no plot details have been revealed yet, Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are named as producers.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to release in theaters on July 31st, 2026.
