Since the release of the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga, The Rise Of Skywalker, Disney has been focusing on several different eras of Star Wars. However, as the focus shifts back to the era of the Sequel Trilogy, some fans are speculating if Rise Of Skywalker will be pushed aside as being the conclusion of the story.
While the Sequel Trilogy was a point of contention for many fans of the franchise, The Rise Of Skywalker was one many were able to agree on. The film was not received well by fans and critics alike upon release, drawing negative feedback for its story and dialogue. Nowadays, the film frequently appears at the bottom of many Star Wars rankings.
Screen Rant noted that, upon its release, Rise Of Skywalker was fully meant to be the conclusion to the storyline started all those years ago in 1977. Between the movie itself, tying up the loose threads of the saga, bringing back the main antagonist Emperor Palpatine, and even the marketing, all signs pointed to that being the finale.
However, with new projects being greenlit, Disney is gearing up to flesh out the Sequel era once more. Several upcoming films are taking place post-Sequels, and are expected to expand upon the story and characters that were set up and once thought to be concluded.
One project in particular seems to be primed to make Rise Of Skywalker null and void as a conclusion to Daisy Ridley’s Rey in particular. Screen Rant also noted, in their breakdown of the topic, that an upcoming movie is going to pick up her character several years after the close of the film. Early reports indicate it’ll follow her as she sets up a new order of Jedi Knights to keep the peace in the galaxy after the destruction of the First Order.
