Today marks the premiere of the Kenneth Branagh-directed Disney+ film Artemis Fowl starring Ferdia Shaw, Josh Gad, Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. While indoor movie theaters remain closed in New York due to COVID-19, drive-in movies are allowed, bringing a little bit of nostalgia and relief for those missing the moviegoing experience.
Today and tomorrow (June 12 and 13) a socially distanced drive-in movie fundraising event screening Artemis Fowl will be held at Bridgehampton’s Hampton Classic Horse Show grounds. CEO of Blade helicopter service, Rob Wiesenthal, is putting on this two-night fundraiser with 100% of event proceedings being donated to food pantries on the East End of Long Island.
Andrew Saffir, founder of The Cinema Society, is set to host the event alongside co-hosts Bob Balaban and Jane Rosenthal. “It’s certainly the first live movie event in months. I think it will really be the first [event] anybody here is doing,” says Saffir. “People don’t always think of the Hamptons as an area of need, but the food pantries here are seriously depleted.”
