The Tune Squad just got the summer’s best free agent acquisition for their team. Four-time MVP Lebron James has officially signed on to star in an upcoming Space Jam sequel. Also set to direct is Fast & Furious 6 helmer Justin Lin. Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are co-witing the picture.
Rumors of a follow-up to the live action-animated 1996 hit have been circulating for years but picked up steam in July when James and his company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. The film follows up the 1996 classic starring basketball icon Michael Jordan trusted into the world of Loony Toons in an effort to save the world with a game of basketball. The film made $230.4 million worldwide and fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since.
Lin directed four of the Fast & Furious films, starting with 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift through 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. He also directed Star Trek Beyond, which is slated to hit theaters on July 22. He’s repped by CAA, Cinetic Management and Sloss Eckhouse.
James is currently the starting forward for the Cleveland Cavilers, who are in the midst of a playoff battle until mid June at the latest. Recently he appeared in Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck with a significant role. He is repped by WME. Expect things to move forward once the basketball season has come to an end.
