Sources at Deadline have reported that Sophia Lillis (It:Chapter 1 & 2, Uncle Frank) and Hugh Grant (Paddington 2, Death to 2020) have joined the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie. They join a cast already including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and the latest ‘absolute dreamboat’ according to many on social media, Regé-Jean Page.
The film is clearly assembling a cast of individuals that will get movie goers back in seats. Lillis and Grant serve as an intriguing pair to add to the film. Lillis, 19, broke out to youth and Stephen King fans alike for her portrayal of Beverly Marsh in the It movies, while Grant has been around since the 80’s and was too an ‘absolute dreamboat,’ according to message board from the 90’s, I’m sure.
It is also reported by Deadline that Grant will play the villain of the film. Grant’s last true villainous role saw him go toe to toe with Paddington Bear, an absolute dreamboat, according to everyone who saw the critically acclaimed film Paddington 2. It is a wonderfully warm film and Grant seemed to be having a ball playing an actor that has beef against the bear. It will certainly be fun to see if Grant plays up his comedic chops as the antagonist or is more serious. Hopefully nothing like Jeremy Irons in the original Dungeons & Dragons film from 2000.
The Paramount and eOne produced film could be a serious action movie or a comedy or a mixture of both. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are writers and directors of the film and their best movie, Game Night, mixed serious action and comedy very well. In my opinion, the best way to go with this film would be something similar to the Jump Street movies. A funny action filled hour and a half would be perfect.
Dungeons & Dragons is yet to be titled, but the film is set for release on May 27, 2022.
