Sony Tackles The Ever-Evolving Film Industry Through Streaming

In a strategy meeting on Tuesday in Tokyo, Sony Corp. CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra discussed the success Sony is enjoying while planning for the future.

Because Sony is made up of creators involved in gaming, music, and animation, this allows for a wide variety of content to be produced. The company’s widespread variety might also contribute to the enhancement of Sony Entertainment films due to the combinations that could take place between departments.

Yoshida commented that the diversity of divisions which make up his company grant it a competitive edge on the streaming end of the film industry: “The proliferation of subscription streaming services has increased the demand for music and video content and is acting as a tailwind for companies like Sony, that own businesses producing content like music and video, such as movies, music and television programs.”

Vinciquerra believes that creating a streaming platform would add more benefit to the dramas that Sony Pictures is producing, rather than providing for, other companies’ services. This lends itself to the company’s overarching goal to have an independent studio reliant on itself in regards to distributing content. With Disney buying up its creative competition via mergers, that might be a smart plan for the near future.
