Here it is, after a revealing poster, Sony Pictures has delivered unto us the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (in theaters May 2, 2014). If you’ve been anticipating it as much as we have, you’re pretty exited. Clocking in at two minutes and forty one seconds, the trailer gives us a lot to mull over. It seems that while this sequel is shaping up to be more action-packed than the The Amazing Spider-Man, it will still contain the firsts film’s emotional weight (i.e. it assures us that being a superhero can suck).
We also get hints at Peter Parker’s (Andrew Garfield) father and his involvement with Norman Osborne (Chris Cooper), a subplot of Marc Webb’s first film, which could be developing into an overarching storyline carry on through future films, giving the series a serialized feel which Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy didn’t have.
An interesting aside: along with some looks at the films villains, Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Electro (Jaimie Foxx), and someone who looks a lot like a Goblin (Green or Hob; you decide) and is most likely played by Dane DeHaan, comic book geeks or anyone with the ability to click “pause” on a Youtube video may notice items that allude to other Spidey villains such as Doctor Octopus (who was played by Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2) and the Vulture. Is Sony dropping hints at future installments in the franchise? Will we indeed see the Sinister 6 in Amazing 3 or 4?
