Earlier this June, Sony Pictures released the trailer for the latest entry in their Marvel universe, Venom: The Last Dance, on the film’s official Facebook page. This entry promises to be the final film of the Venom trilogy where the infamous symbiotic antihero will face off against the government and extraterrestrial threats.
In the trailer, Eddie Brock and Venom are forced on the run by government agents as they continue to fight crime in their violent ways. Additionally, aliens from Venom’s planet have started to attack Earth, leaving the dangerous duo to fight two enemies as they once again come to grapple with their relationship. The official synopsis reveals that “the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”
While plenty of fans have shown excitement for this trailer, others have displayed wariness for a moment related to the post-credits scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home. In that scene, Eddie is pulled back to his home dimension after being pulled to the MCU at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. However, he left behind a squirming piece of Venom in the bar. In the trailer, Chiwetel Ejiofor plays another version of his MCU character Karl Mordo, who leads a hunt against Brock/Venom. However, the trailer also shows him capturing seemingly the same piece that Brock had left behind in the MCU, leaving many to wonder how this alternate version of Mordo ended up in the MCU in the first place. “So you’ve got Chiwetel Ejiofor in Venom 3 as a new character, which takes place in its own universe. But right here he’s in the MCU & he’s not playing Baron Mordo, who he previously played in the MCU… & he’s taking back the symbiote that was left in the MCU. Good Job Sony!” one fan complained.
Even so, the trailer does leave a lot for fans to look forward to, especially a Venom-ized horse that Brock rides across the desert. Fans will have plenty to look forward to when Venom: The Last Dance oozes its way to theatres this October 25th.
