After a brief period of speculation, it’s now a done deal. Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot will be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming. The announcement came at the tale end of Sony’s presentation at the continuing CinemaCon, the annual Las Vegas convention between distributors and exhibitors. The presentation even included brief appearance by the webslinger himself, Tom Holland (The Imposssible). The actor made the trek to Vegas directly following the Los Angeles premiere of Captain America: Civil War, where Holland will debut his Peter Parker, the first sign of the merging of Marvel and Sony on the beloved Spider-Man character.
Speculation of the title arrived recently after it was noticed that Sony purchased a “Spider-Man-Homecoming” domain name. There’s a popular Spider-Man comic with that same name, one that features appearances from fellow Marvel superheros Iron Man and Captain America. This may open up the door that some of our favorite Avengers characters may pop up in Spider-Man: Homecoming, however that doesn’t appear to confirmed as of yet. It is known that Jon Watts (Cop Car) will direct the title and Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) and Zendaya will appear in the film alongside Holland.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is due in theaters on July 17, 2017.
