A new villain is revealed for the upcoming Sony sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which will continue the legacy of the 2018 Oscar-winning movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Despite being a year away from release, the highly anticipated movie is already getting a lot of attention among fans of the Marvel franchise. Across the Spider-Verse kicked off with a press tour that began at CinemaCon in April and more recently at the Annecy Festival where another 15 minutes of footage was shown to the public.
The Spot, whose “entire body is covered in little interdimensional portals that can send him anywhere he wants to go” according to director Kemp Powers, is set to be voiced by Jason Schwartzman. The story will trace Miles Morales’ adventures across the Multiverse where Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will combine forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People in order to combat their most powerful enemy yet.
Alongside Powers, the movie is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and Justin K. Thompson. It also features Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Christina Steinberg as producers, Alonzo Ruvalcaba as a co-producer, Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey and Aditya Sood as executive producers, and Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, and Hailee Steinfeld as cast members.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will premiere on June 2, 2023, while the second part, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is expected to hit the big screens on March 29, 2024.
