As soon as the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog was released, it immediately received plenty of negative backlash from fans and audiences alike. It was so excessive that director Jeff Fowler announced that the film will be changed before it’s final release. The main thing that will be fixed is Sonic himself, the design of which was critiqued the most being described as disturbing and grotesque by fans. Some may be concerned that the redesign will not improve the film, but supposedly will satisfy fans more than the first trailer did.
Tim Miller, Director of Deadpool and the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate, is also set as producer for this new video game film. The producer has commented on this new redesign in a recent interview and discussed that it is indeed a vast improvement from what was originally made. He even commented on original look for Sonic in the film, by stating, “Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the s**t hit the fan, I went over there and said, “The most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f**ked up.” This change was so drastic that the film was ultimately delayed to February of 2020 to make sure the CGI artists will be able to change Sonic’s design properly. If anything, more fans are respecting the decision to improve and delay the design, it’s only a matter of time for fans to witness what the new look for Sonic will be like for his theatrical debut.
Sonic the Hedgehog is set for release on February 14th 2020.
