Deadline has just announced that Sofia Coppola is teaming back up with her Oscar winning friend, Billy Murray (Moonrise Kingdom) for her new project On The Rocks. The film centers around a young mother, who will most likely be played by Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), reconnecting with her playboy father in New York, most likely played by Bill Murray. The film sounds vaguely familiar to Coppola’s Oscar winning Lost In Translation where an older faded movie star, Murray, and a neglected younger woman, Scarlett Johansson, form a unlikely bond in Tokyo.
This will mark the third collaboration between Murray and Coppola with the first two team ups being Lost In Translation and A Very Murray Christmas. Coppola’s most recent directing effort was The Beguiled, which starred Colin Farrell, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman.
Deadline also revealed that A24 has partnered up with Apple to produce the film, which marks the very first movie that Apple will produce. A24 has produced films such as Eighth Grade, Mid 90s and previously collaborated with Coppola for the film The Bling Ring.
Although there is very little else known about the film, it is no doubt exciting to have Coppola returning to the director’s chair.
