‘Snow White’ Earns 44.3 Million For Opening Week Failing To Revitalize Slumping Box Office

The box office continues to disappoint slugging into crawl with the opening weekend of Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White underperforming from original estimates of $48 to 58 million opening instead to $44.3 million. Only the number one spot making more than $10 million for the weekend with second trailing $40 million behind. While not nearly the slump seen from last week where the collective weekend total was around $50 million, it was still able to eat out a solid opening despite bad press and controversies leading up to the premiere. Hoping to repeat the slow crawl success of Mufasa: The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, Disney intends to keep Snow White in theaters to try to recuperate enough money for the film to land in the black. It has been said numerous times by critics, audiences, and reviewers that Disney’s reliance on remakes for the last decade or so is starting to strain audiences leading to poorer and poorer performances with each new attempt. Disney will need to play carefully with Snow White as a $270 million budget to pass the film has a steep climb.

In an incredibly steep drop, Black Bag came in second with $4.4 million actually climbing one place from 3rd to 2nd from last week upon its premiere where it lost to Novocaine and Mickey 17.

Captain America: Brave New World settled into third place with $4.3 million and after 6 weeks will likely be leaving theaters soon making way for the next Marvel installment in the form of Thunderbolts*.

Novocaine dropped to No. 4 after last weekend’s first place standing in the upset of the week. The film added $3.7 million from its second week.

Mickey 17 now sits at No. 5 on box office charts with $3.7 million. Having only earned $40 million domestically and crawling to $100 million worldwide against a $118 million budget the film is likely to settle firmly as a flop.

The biggest disappointment for the weekend though would be Robert Di Niro’s new crime drama Alto Knights completely stumbling with $3.2 million into sixth for it’s opening weekend for the career actor.

The Looney Tunes: The Day the Earth Blew Up continues a nice steady performance in 7th with $1.83 million. For its fifth week The Monkey came in 8th with $1.55 million and in 9th was Dog Man following close behind with $1.5 million. 10th went to indie Christian film Last Supper with $1.33 million.

In a not so unexpected turn of events, Magazine Dreams has bombed after a tumultuous journey to the big screen.

Magazine Dreams, stars Jonathan Majors, who recently came back under scrutiny with the leaking of alleged audio after attempting a comeback tour following his conviction in court in 2023. Magazine Dreams crumbled under the pressure only amassing $700,000 from 800 theaters and nailing it onto the list at 14th.
