‘Smile 2’ Out-Performs Original At Box Office, ‘Terrifier 3’ Still Climbing

Ray Nicholson in Paramount Pictures presents a Temple Hill production, a Parker Finn film: "Smile 2."

Horror continues to dominate at the box office this week, with Smile 2 grinning confidently in the lead.

Smile 2 outperformed its predecessor, debuting with $23 million at the domestic box office in 3,619 theaters. The 2022 film Smile, directed by Parker Finn, opened to just over $22 million, signifying a growing interest in the new franchise. The sequel, which stars Naomi Scott, had a projected budget of $28 million.

While The Wild Robot continues to hold its place in the top three, it is speculated that its gain comes from underage viewers purchasing tickets to see the age-restricted gore-fest Terrifier 3. The third Terrifier installment earned an impressive profit, bringing in $36 million after this weekend on a $2 million budget.

A24’s romantic drama We Live In Time, starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, is number five this week after expanding its number of screens following its limited release last weekend.

The Halloween season continues strongly, with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Joker: Folie à Deux, and The Nightmare Before Christmas re-release maintaining their positions in the top 10.
