Skeletons will be released on June 4, 2027, in theaters. The film is based on the short story Fail-Safe written by Phillip Fracassi (The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre, The Third Rule of Time Travel). JT Mollner (Henry John and the Little Bug, Outlaws and Angels) directs. 

The film centers around a young boy whose mother keeps him in a cage. The film stars Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie), Daithí Ó Haragáin (Say Nothing, Trepasses), Ione Skye (My Father’s Will, The Rachel Papers), John Goodman (The Emperor’s New Groove, The Princess and the Frog), Keith Carradine (Fear the Walking Dead, The Devil and the Daylong Brothers), Kyle Gallner (The Haunting in Connecticut, Dinner in America) and Willa Fitzgerald (Strange Darling, Regretting You). J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The End of Oak Street) produces. Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, The Babysitter) wrote the original draft for the film as Mollner revised it. 

While Universal Pictures was thinking about being the studio for the film in 2022, the film was later given to Sony Pictures for $25 million after the bidding war between Neon, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Filming has taken place since June 23rd.  Fracassi took to Instagram to share his thoughts surrounding the adaptation,
