The Singapore International Film Festival is underway, with its 35th edition set for Nov. 28 to Dec. 8.
This year’s festival will showcase 105 films from 45 countries, with a strong focus on Asian cinema. Three Singaporean features will make their world premieres: The House of Janus, City of Small Blessings and Al Wada.
The lineup also includes Nightbitch starring Amy Adams, David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds, Miguel Gomes’ Grand Tour and Bong Joon-ho’s debut feature Barking Dogs Never Bite, which will be screened in a newly restored version.
The festival will feature two special gala presentations for The Fable and The Unseen Sister.
Taiwanese actors Yang Kuei-mei and Lee Kang-sheng will receive the Screen Icon Award. Yang is a four-time SGIFF performance award winner, while Lee stars in the festival’s opening film Stranger Eyes.
This year’s festival will introduce SGIFF Industry Days, a three-day conference hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority. The event will include a panel featuring filmmakers Ossama Mohammed and Santosh Sivan, along with other creative leaders, to discuss creating a global audience for Asian stories and other filmmaking topics. The conference will hold 15 sessions aimed at networking and industry insights.
