Sing Sing, A24’s Oscar-nominated prison drama based on a real-life rehabilitation program will soon be available on streaming, Collider reports.
Released in theaters to critical praise and box office success on July 12, 2024, the story follows John “Divine G” Whitfield, an innocent man jailed for a crime he didn’t commit, taking solace in the Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility but clashes with a fellow prisoner, Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, as they work on a new production.
In addition to receiving three nominations at this year’s Academy Awards, for Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Song, the film is gaining notice for making an impact in other areas as well: adding several former inmates and RTA veterans to the cast, paying everyone who worked on the film the same rate, and being made available to nearly a million incarcerated people nationwide.
Now, via a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, Sing Sing will premiere on the streaming platform Max on March 21, 2025.
Sing Sing was directed by Greg Kwedar, co-written and produced by Kwedar and Clint Bentley, and stars Colman Domingo, Maclin as himself, Jon-Adrian Velazquez, and Paul Raci. Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Domingo, Raúl Domingo, Larry Kalas, Larry Kelly, Nancy Schafer, Maclin, and John ‘Divine G’ Whitfield serve as executive producers.
